Here are this week’s nominees for The Charlotte Observer girls high school athlete of the week.

This week’s Nominees

Ian Black, Butler Baseball: The Bulldogs’ junior pitcher earned a six-out save including three strikeouts to lead Butler to a 5-3 win over Providence March 15. Butler earned its first victory over Providence since May 11 2009, having lost 22 straight to the Panthers in that span.

Matt Cipriano, Lincoln Charter Baseball: The Eagles’ senior went 2-for-3 at the plate with two, three-run home runs in a 23-3 win over Mountain Island Charter March 14.

Cipriano also pitched 3.1 innings with six strikeouts, allowing just one hit to earn the win on the mound in the same game.

Lincoln Charter is 3-2 this season.

Killian Fahy, Cuthbertson Track: The Cavaliers’ senior won the 400-meter dash in 47.88 at the Clash of the Carolinas’ Invitational at Cuthbertson March 18.

Fahy also finished fifth-place in the 200-meter dash at the same event.

Fahy is a University of North Carolina commit.

Chase Kiker, Metrolina Christian Baseball: The Warriors’ freshman pitched 6.2 innings with eight strikeouts, four hits and no runs allowed in a 5-0 win over Hickory Grove March 18. Kiker also went 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBI in the same game.

Metrolina Christian (5-2) also beat Mountain Island Charter (17-3, March 13) and Gaston Christian (12-3 March 16).

Matthew Lefevers, Hickory Baseball: The Red Tornadoes’ junior pitcher tossed a complete game to earn the victory on the mound with 13 strikeouts, one walk, while allowing only four hits in a 3-1 win at East Lincoln March 14.

Hickory also won 2-1 over North Lincoln March 16.

Lefevers is 2-0 on the mound with 23 strikeouts in 16 innings of work, while boasting an 0.88 earned-run average (ERA) for Hickory (7-0).

Mason Maher, Charlotte Country Day Lacrosse: The Buccaneers’ freshman attacker set a school-record with 12 points (eight goals, four assists) to lead Charlotte Country Day to a 20-6 win over Porter Ridge March 14.

Maher also had two goals and three assists in 15-11 win over Cuthbertson March 13.

Maher has 22 goals and 20 assists for Charlotte Country Day (5-2).

Eric Mendenhall, Myers Park Lacrosse: The Mustangs’ junior attacker scored two goals in a 13-12 loss to Weddington March 14.

Mendenhall also had three goals and one assist in a 16-3 victory over South Mecklenburg March 16.

Mendenhall finished off the week with four goals and three assists (including his 100th career points) in a 14-5 win over T.C. Roberson March 18.

Mendenhall has 16 goals and six assists for Myers Park (5-3).

Seth Moon, SouthLake Christian Baseball: The Eagles’ junior went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in a 9-8 win over Hickory Grove March 14.

Moon was 1-for-2 with two walks in a 16-6 loss to Combine Academy March 16.

Moon also went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run in a 4-2 win over Next Level Academy (AL) March 18.

Moon is batting .520 with three home runs and 10 RBI for SouthLake Christian (5-4) this season.

Drew Nelson, Lake Norman Baseball: The Wildcats’ junior earned the win on the mound with four strikeouts, while getting a bases-clearing double with four RBI in a 12-2 victory at A.L. Brown March 14.

The next day, Nelson went 1-for-3 at the plate with a run scored in a 9-3 loss at Myers Park.

Nelson also went 3-for-3 with three doubles and three RBI in a 14-4 win over A.L. Brown March 16.

Nelson is batting .467 with four doubles, 10 RBI, while going 1-0 on the mound with a 1.17 earned-run average (ERA).

Grant Partridge, Providence Tennis: The Panthers’ junior won his No. 2 singles match 6-4, 6-4, while teaming with Daniel Rohlman to win 8-5 in doubles as Providence won 7-2 at Ardrey Kell March 15.

The next day, Partridge won 6-1, 6-0 in singles, and again paired with Rothman to win 8-1 in doubles in a 9-0 win at Butler.

Partridge is a perfect 12-0 individually (singles/doubles) for Ardrey Kell (6-0).

D’yanni Rhyne, Lincoln Charter Golf: The Eagles’ senior shot a 2-under-par 34 with three birdies in his round to earn medalist honors in a Catawba Shores’ conference match at Mooresville Golf Club March 13.

Rhyne’s efforts led the Lincoln Charter boys’ golf team to a second-place finish in the same match.

Rhyne is being recruited by Chowan, Elizabeth City State, and Johnson C. Smith, according to Lincoln Charter golf coach Leslie Auton.

Brooks Stankavage, Ardrey Kell Lacrosse: The Knights’ senior scored three goals and had one assist in a 16-3 win over Legion Collegiate March 13.

Stankavage also scored six goals in a 10-5 victory at Mooresville March 14.

Stankavage scored six more goals in a 23-4 win at Porter Ridge, March 17. He has three six-goal games this season.

Stankavage, an Army (West Point commit) has 36 goals for Ardrey Kell (6-2) this season.

Declan Sullins, Parkwood Lacrosse: The Wolfpack junior midfielder had one goal and two assists in a 15-5 loss at South Mecklenburg March 11.

Sullins also had five goals and five assists in an 18-4 win over Butler March 14.

Parkwood is 1-1 this season.
