Below are the nominees for The Charlotte Observer girls’ high school athlete of the week.

This week’s nominees

Boston Bates, North Mecklenburg basketball: The 5-foot-7 senior scored 23 points in an 87-7 win at Hopewell Jan. 11.

The night before, Bates had 16 points in a 69-26 victory over Julius Chambers.

Lauren Bernardo, Charlotte Catholic swimming: The Cougars’ senior won the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke as Charlotte Catholic beat Providence to remain undefeated at 6-0 this season Jan. 10.

Bernardo also led the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays to victory at the same meet. She is an LSU signee.

Makenzie Goode-Roberts, A.L. Brown basketball: The 5-5 sophomore scored 12 points, grabbed eight rebounds, had three assists, three steals and two blocks in a 48-45 win at East Rowan on Jan. 10.

Goode-Roberts is averaging 4.8 points, 1.6 rebounds and one steal per game for A.L. Brown (9-4).

Amya Graham, South Point basketball: The 6-foot junior notched her 11th double-double of the season with 25 points and 26 rebounds in a 63-49 win at Hunter Huss on Jan. 12.

The previous night, Graham had another double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds in a 64-58 loss at Stuart Cramer.

Graham is averaging 19 points and 17 rebounds per game for South Point (8-6).

Delanie Hill, Providence basketball: The 5-7 senior scored 25 points to lead Providence to a 60-27 win at Rocky River on Jan. 11.

Hill also scored 23 points, had 10 assists and five steals in a 64-45 victory at Berry on Jan. 8.

Providence is 6-8 overall this season.

Hill is a University of Albany commit.

Zaniya LittleJohn, West Charlotte indoor track: The Lions’ senior ran a personal-best 40.64 to win the 300-meter dash at the Hopewell Polar Bear on Jan. 11.

LittleJohn also ran a 7.44 to win the 55-meter dash at the same event, just .02 off her personal-best time.

Jaida McClure, Providence Day basketball: The 5-9 sophomore had 15 points, six steals and the game-winning assist in the final seconds to lead Providence Day to a 39-37 win over the defending NCISAA 4A state champion Rabun Gap Nacoochee on Jan. 13.

McClure also scored 11 points to go with five rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 51-25 win over Charlotte Christian on Jan. 12.

McClure started off the week with three points, five rebounds, seven assists and a steal in a 47-32 victory over Charlotte Latin on Jan. 10.

McClure, recently offered a scholarship by Delaware, is averaging 12 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals per game for a Providence Day team (14-5) that has won eight straight games through Monday.

Caroline Mercuri, Lake Norman Charter basketball: The 5-5 sophomore scored a career-high 20 points to go with six rebounds, four steals and a block in a 53-48 win at South Rowan on Jan. 11.

Mercuri is averaging 5.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.9 steals for Lake Norman Charter (4-10).

Annie Miller, Metrolina Christian indoor track: The Warriors’ junior shattered her own personal and school record running a 2.54.48 to finish fourth at the Virginia Showcase in Virginia Beach, one of the nation’s best indoor meets Jan. 13.

Miller’s 1,000-meter time was the eighth-fastest time in state history.

Miller also ran a personal-best 1,500 (4:46.14, 19th-place), 1,600 (5:04.03, 20th-place) and one-mile run (5:06.44, 21st-place) at the same meet.

Emma Montanari, East Lincoln basketball: The 5-9 sophomore had a triple-double with 33 points, 10 rebounds, 10 steals, two assists and four blocks in a 77-51 win over Fred T. Foard on Jan. 12.

Montanari also scored 24 points, had six rebounds, six steals, three assists and three blocks in a 58-56 victory at Hickory on Jan. 10.

Montanari is averaging 18.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 6.6 steals and 2.5 blocks per game for an East Lincoln team (12-1) that has won six straight games.

Aria Wegh, Marvin Ridge indoor track: The Mavericks’ senior ran a personal-best 1:15.94 to win the 500-meter dash at the Providence High Polar Bear on Jan. 11.

Wegh also won the 55-meter dash in 7.29 at the same event. She is a Wake Forest commit.

Stefania Williams, Pine Lake Prep indoor track: The Pride senior had personal-bests to win the long jump (17-10.5) and triple jump (35-9.25) at the Mountain Island Winter Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem on Jan. 11.

Williams also ran an 8.95 to finish as runner-up in the 55-meter hurdles at the same event. She is a Davidson College commit.
