Below are the nominees for The Charlotte Observer high school athlete of the week.

This week’s nominees

Kiara Anderson, East Lincoln basketball: The 5-foot-4 sophomore scored 23 points, had six steals, five rebounds and four assists in an 86-15 win over Kings Mountain Nov. 29.

She had 25 points, eight steals, seven assists and four rebounds in a 70-19 win over rival Lincolnton Dec. 1.

Anderson is averaging 25.7 points, 8.3 steals, 6.3 assists and 4.7 rebounds for East Lincoln (3-0, through Sunday).

Lili Booker, Mallard Creek basketball: The 5-6 senior scored 24 points, including the 1,000th point of her high school career, to go with eight steals, two assists and one rebound in a 69-14 win over East Forsyth Dec. 1.

Kaylee Carson, Independence basketball: The 5-8 senior scored 20 points in a 76-32 win over West Charlotte Nov. 28.

Carson also scored 20 points in a 66-41 victory over South Meccklenburg Nov. 30.

Carson is averaging 21 points per game for Independence (5-0 through Sunday).

Ella Chepul, Marvin Ridge basketball: The 5-11 senior made a school-record seven 3-pointers, scoring 23 points overall, in an 83-21 win at Catawba Ridge Nov. 28.

The Marvin Ridge girls’ basketball team also set a new school record with 18 3-pointers in the victory.

Chepul also scored 10 points in a 58-49 win over Stuart Cramer Dec. 1.

Marvin Ridge is 3-0 through Sunday.

Layla Clark, Providence Day basketball: The 5-7 sophomore scored a career-high 14 points to lead Providence Day to a 73-21 win at Durham Academy Dec. 2.

Clark also had 10 points in a 42-30 win at Ravenscroft Dec. 1.

Clark scored six points in a 40-35 loss at High Point Christian Dec. 28.

Clark is averaging 5.4 points per game for Providence Day (5-4 through Sunday).

Abby Druhan, Charlotte Catholic swimming: The Cougars’ senior won the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley to lead the Cougars to a victory over Ardrey Kell Nov. 30.

Druhan is a Penn State University signee.

Alaina Griffin, Metrolina Christian basketball: The 5-4 sophomore scored 39 points, had six steals, five rebounds and four assists in a 56-45 win at Westminster Catawba Dec. 1.

Griffin also scored 20 points, plus six rebounds, eight steals and four assists in a 43-32 victory over SouthLake Christian Nov. 28.

Griffin is averaging 29 points per game for Metrolina Christian (4-1 through Sunday).

Lindsay Nolan, Providence basketball: The 5-10 senior scored eight points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had three blocks in a 46-34 win at Sun Valley Nov. 28.

Nolan also had 19 points, eight rebounds, three steals, two blocks and one assist in a 58-18 victory over Harding Dec. 1.

Nolan is averaging 10 points and 12 rebounds per game for Providence (2-2 through Sunday).

Teri Pridgen, Cannon School indoor track: The Cougars’ senior won the 55-meter dash (7.17) and set a new personal and school record (40.48) to win the 300-meters at the Cold Turkey Invitational at Marvin Ridge Dec. 2.

Pridgen’s 55-meter dash time qualifies her for the New Balance Indoor Track Nationals.

Pridgen is a Virginia Tech commit.

Kelsey Rhyne, Lake Norman basketball: The 5-9 sophomore scored 29 points to go with six rebounds, seven assists and four steals in an 81-37 win over Mount Tabor Nov. 28.

Rhyne also scored four points, grabbed seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in a 67-53 victory at South Pointe (SC) Dec. 1.

The next day, Rhyne had 15 points and eight rebounds in a 57-48 win at A.C. Reynolds.

Lake Norman is 6-0 overall through Sunday.

Ally Smith, North Lincoln basketball: The 5-9 freshman scored 14 points, had six rebounds, eight assists and 11 steals in a 67-58 win at Forestview Nov. 29.

Smith also scored 16 points to go with three rebounds, five assists and seven steals in a 69-43 victory over Mooresville Dec. 1.

Smith is averaging 16.7 points, 7.7 steals, six assists and 3.7 rebounds per game for North Lincoln (3-0, through Sunday).

Charlotte Tune, Charlotte Latin basketball: The 5-7 sophomore averaged 18 points, three assists and 3.5 steals per game as Charlotte Latin beat Nation Ford (SC) at home and Durham Academy and Ravenscroft on the road.

The Hawks (3-2) won 52-38 over Nation Ford Nov. 28, and then won road games at Durham Academy, 50-35, Dec. 1, and, 50-40 at Ravenscroft Dec. 2.
