Manatee County’s football players are already putting together memorable performances as the 2023-24 high school season heats up.
This week, we resume a weekly feature in which we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Manatee County high school sports.
Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15.

Here are the candidates from last week’s games:
▪ Alvoid Kennon, Manatee: The junior obliterated Punta Gorda Charlotte’s offense with a team-high eight tackles with seven tackles for loss and one sack in the Hurricanes’ 46-7 win.
▪ Yahshua Edwards, Braden River: Edwards scored four touchdowns en route to 159 total yards of offense (55 rushing, 104 receiving) in the Pirates’ 41-23 victory over rival Lakewood Ranch.
▪ Marcus Galloway, Braden River: Galloway had 130 rushing yards and one touchdown in Braden River’s 41-23 win over Lakewood Ranch.
▪ Jackson Volz, Parrish Community: The senior had a mind-boggling 164.3 quarterback rating in the Bulls’ 63-22 win over Bayshore. He completed 11 of 13 passes for 293 yards with four touchdown passes.
▪ Evan Brown, Saint Stephen’s: Brown torched Out-of-Door Academy through the air and with his legs in the Falcons’ 21-7 victory. He completed 11 of 13 passes for 157 yards with one touchdown and added 89 rushing yards with two scores.
