The fifth week of the high school football season is in the books in South Carolina.

It’s time to vote for The State’s high school football Player of the Week from Midlands-area high schools and games played Sept. 22-23. Voting ends Friday at noon. The winner will be announced on Lou Bezjak’s Twitter page.

The nominees are listed below. Please note that these polls are not scientific and are meant to be just for fun.

Khalen Bostick, WR, Chapin: Junior caught 15 passes for 167 yards as the Eagles won their fifth straight game, 22-7, over AC Flora.

AJ Brand, QB, Irmo: Junior was 17-of-20 passing for 345 yards, six touchdowns and also carried it three times for 37 yards and a TD in 54-0 win over Airport.

Thomas Dewalt, DE, Newberry: Sophomore had seven tackles, three for loss, 2.5 sacks and a quarterback pressure in 21-14 win over Keenan.

Jaylen Jay, RB, Gilbert: Junior carried it 24 times for 114 yards, two touchdowns and caught five passes for 143 yards, two touchdowns in 49-27 win over Saluda.

Jaiden Kimble, LB, White Knoll: Senior had 15 tackles, four for loss, and five quarterback pressures in 42-8 win over Lancaster.

Cortez Lane, RB, Cardinal Newman: Senior carried it 17 times for 175 yards, three touchdowns and also caught a pass for 14 yards in 31-0 win over Ben Lippen.

Jamel McDaniel, QB, Columbia: Senior threw two touchdowns and ran for two scores in a 24-18 win over Eau Claire. McDaniel scored on a 2-yard run with 23 seconds for the go-ahead score.

Caleb Pearson, QB/DB: CA Johnson: Senior was 3-of-6 passing for 59 yards, TD, and also carried it 14 times for 183 yards and four touchdowns in 52-0 win over Hemingway.

DeShaun Washington, RB, Brookland-Cayce: Senior carried it 25 times for 198 yards and four touchdowns in 28-14 win over Hampton County.

James Willingham, RB, Richland Northeast: Senior rushed 25 times for 233 yards, two touchdowns and caught seven passes for 49 yards and a TD in the 41-38 win over Nation Ford. Willingham caught the game-winning pass with 1:23 left.
