Given the sheer volume of Air Jordan 1 retro releases over the past few years, it might be hard to imagine that Nike has any classic styles left in the vault. But one of the most beloved Jordan 1 colorways is about to drop this week for the first time in nearly 40 years: the Air Jordan 1 High ’85 ‘Metallic Burgundy.’ It’s a rare treat for sneaker collectors and Jordan fans—and an early contender for the title of 2024’s most important retro release.

A clean white high-top with dark red uppers, sole, and swoosh, the ‘Metallic Burgundy’ Air Jordan 1 was one of several special colorways released in 1986, about a year after the model was first launched. Most of those coveted versions have been re-released in retro versions with original specifications over the years, including the gray-tinted ‘Georgetown’ in 2022 and the ‘Black White’ last year.

But this is the first time the ‘Metallic Burgundy’ has been given a contemporary refresh—one that many sneakerheads feel is long overdue. Given its rarity, the colorway ranks among the most coveted of the ’85 Jordan releases, and it’s guaranteed to make a serious splash when it hits Nike and the SNKRS app this Saturday, June 22. If you’ve been waiting around for the right Air Jordan 1 to nab, the time might've come to strike.
