What's open and closed over Christmas in Halifax

Many businesses will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 25, Christmas Day and Friday Dec. 26, Boxing Day, others will have reduced hours. Here’s a list of what is open and closed over the holidays.

Restaurants open on Christmas Day:

- Turkish Delight Restaurant on Spring Garden Road 11:30 a.m. — 10:00 p.m.

- Harbourstone Sea Grill & Pour House (at the Marriott) serves Christmas Brunch 10 a.m. — 2 p.m.and a three course dinner 5 p.m. — 8 p.m.

- Atlantica Hotel lounge is open with a limited menu 7 a.m. — 10 p.m

Community Dinners:

Christmas Eve:

- Brunswick Street Mission has Christmas dinner at noon.

- Hope Cottage is offering lunch to go from noon to 1 p.m.

- Feeding Others of Dartmouth is open for regular operations noon to 12:30 p.m.

Christmas Day:

- Jamieson's Irish House & Grill is not open for regular operation but is offering a community dinner from 1 p.m. — 3 p.m. for those who don't have anyone to spend their holiday with. All food has been donated as has a MetroTransit bus to pickup people wishing to attend. Jamieson's staff must be contacted in advance if you wish to attend at 902-433-0500.

- Brunswick Street Mission open for regular operations. Coffee from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., breakfast 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.

- Hope Cottage is serving Christmas dinner from noon to 1 p.m.

- Feeding Others of Dartmouth is serving Christmas dinner from noon to 12:30 p.m.

- Souls Harbour Rescue Mission is holding their Christmas party from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

- Meals on Wheels continues regular delivery on Christmas Day.

Walk in blood collection services and walk in X-ray services at most Capital health sites close at noon Dec. 24 and reopen on Dec. 29.

Waste collection:

Christmas Eve is a regular collection day. No collection on Thursday, Dec. 25. Collection of garbage, organics and recyclables will instead happen on Saturday, Dec. 27. Boxing Day is a regular collection day.

Halifax Public Libraries:

All branches of the Halifax Public Library will be closed.

Halifax Transit:

Christmas Eve — regular bus and ferry service
Christmas Day — holiday schedule for bus, no harbour ferry service
Boxing Day —​ holiday schedule for bus and ferry service

Canada Post:

All post offices will be closed. There is no collection or delivery of mail.
