Winning Time Finale Sneak Peek: Coach Pat Riley Rallies the Lakers With a Fiery Speech Ahead of Game 7 (Exclusive)

In a Game 7, the winner takes all — and Winning Time‘s Pat Riley wants to make sure his L.A. Lakers are the ones doing the taking.

TVLine has an exclusive sneak peek at this Sunday’s Season 2 finale (9/8c, HBO), with Riley rallying the troops ahead of the Lakers’ Game 7 showdown against the hated Boston Celtics, with the 1984 NBA title on the line. As Jerry Buss and his family get seated in the Boston Garden, Riley tells his team to visualize how they want the game to end, warning them: “You come back here feeling like you could’ve given more, and you’ll never forgive yourself. Trust me.”

As Magic, Kareem, James Worthy and their teammates listen intently, Riley encourages his players to “make yourselves a promise: It won’t be for lack of effort. It won’t be for lack of will. There will not be a single second where you didn’t give it your all.” His voice even quakes with emotion as he screams at them to leave “no… unfinished… business!” With that, the Lakers and Celtics take the court, with Magic and Larry Bird staring each other down as the opening tip-off sails into the air. (And don’t spoil the ending by looking online to see who won.)
