Woman and daughter killed in County Mayo named

A woman and a child who were killed in a car crash in County Mayo have been named as 46-year-old Aisling Moore and her eight-year-old daughter Abbigael Moore-Tournié.

They both died after a car and a lorry collided on the N26 in Lismoran, Foxford at about 17:45 local time on Tuesday.

Ms Moore was the driver of the car, gardaí said.

The driver of the lorry was taken to hospital with injuries that are understood to be non-life threatening.

The scene has been examined and the N26 Foxford-to-Swinford road has been reopened to traffic.

Post-mortems for the deceased have been been arranged and investigations are ongoing, gardaí added.

Other fatalities

In County Westmeath, two men have also died in two separate collisions.

A man in his 80s died in a two-car crash on the R394 at Gartlandstown, Castlepollard on Wednesday morning.

The man, a passenger in one of the cars, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car, a woman in her 60s, was taken to hospital for treatment for serious injuries.

The driver of the second car, a man in his 30s, and a passenger, a man in his 20s, were also taken to hospital for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life threatening.

The road is currently closed for a technical examination. Local diversions are in place.

On Tuesday evening, a man in his 50s died in another car crash in Castlepollard.

The single-vehicle crash happened on the R395 at Teevrevagh.

The road has since reopened after being closed.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the three collisions to come forward.
