Zack Greinke shared a cool moment with his son after leaving Sunday’s Royals game

Making it to Major League Baseball is a huge challenge for nearly everyone who has played the game.

That’s why Royals manager Matt Quatraro thinks players at the big-league level should feel gratification.

“We were just talking about this, the amount of pride you should have in one day you get here, every day is a gift to you out here on the field and to have the privilege of putting a uniform on,” Quatraro said. “So to do it for the whole season or multiple years is just incredible.”

Quatraro wasn’t talking about Zack Greinke, but it really has been an incredible career for the Royals pitcher.

Greinke appeared in his 586th career game Sunday, pitching five innings and getting a victory in what may be his final appearance after 20 seasons in Major League Baseball.

After being removed from the game, Greinke heard cheers from Royals fans at Kauffman Stadium and again when he came out for a curtain call. When the hoopla died down, he walked to the side of the Royals dugout.

Greinke’s family was in the stands, and one of his sons came over to talk with him. It was a cool moment, and Royals broadcaster Ryan Lefebvre summed it up well: “That’s a moment they’ll never forget.
