Adrien Paquette pleads guilty to animal cruelty after dragging dog behind truck

Adrien Paquette gets year probation, will pay $1K fine for dragging dog behind truck

A man from rural southeast Ottawa has pleaded guilty to causing injury to an animal after tying his German shepherd Tyson to a truck and dragging him for at least half a kilometre last year.

Adrien Paquette, who was 72 at the time of the incident, entered the guilty plea on June 22, according to court records.

Sentencing is expected to take place on Sept. 2.

Police arrested Paquette, a resident of Vars, on March 16, 2014, after getting a call from witnesses about the incident, which happened on Carlsbad Lane in the city's southeast end.

The German shepherd, named Tyson, was two years old at the time and recovered at the Ottawa Humane Society after suffering lacerations to his paws and lower front legs.

The dog was adopted by another family several weeks later, the humane society said.
