Boo! Mysterious 'ghost' captured on surveillance camera at New Mexico police station

Ghost appears at New Mexico police station.

A New Mexico police officer believes he spotted a ghost on surveillance cameras last Saturday night.

Officer Karl Romero was keeping an eye on the cameras at the Espanola station when he spotted something moving through a secured entryway.

"At first I thought it was a podilla — a fly or moth — then I saw the legs … and it was a human," he told KOAT TV.

"But not a real human," a reporter clarified.

“No, a ghost.”

In the footage, a light, blurry figure appears to walk across the gated area, through cages, in the dark.

“It walks in the direction of the old transport cages. And there’s not really any way for it to get through there, but it seems to walk right through that,” Detective Solomon Romero said.

Romero showed the footage to his supervisors who confirmed that there is no way in or out of the secured area without opening the gates or setting off an alarm.

So, was it a ghost?

“I do. I do believe in ghosts,” Detective Solomon Romero told KOAT TV. “I do believe it was something. It was hard to say, but I do believe in ghosts.

Officers at the station have admitted to witnessing strange things and aren’t quick to rule out a ghost sighting.

“A lot of officers have seen certain things. Some officers have felt someone breathing down their necks as they’re working in the briefing room,” Detective Solomon Romero told reporters.

As far as the officers know, the station is not built on a burial ground, nor have any inmates died at the station.

There are, however, some unsolved murders in the area.

In an email to the Huffington Post, paranormal investigator Bryan Bonner of the Rocky Mountain Paranormal Research Society said that he wasn’t convinced that the figure in the video was a ghost.

"That has to be one of the worst videos that I have seen," he wrote, adding that police officers have little training in analyzing “ghost” videos.

"The image appears to have been caused by a small insect (possibly a small spider) crawling on the plastic case that houses the lens."
