Detroit statue of RoboCop is built and nearly ready to keep the city out of trouble

After a two-year campaign to erect a statue of Detroit's favourite cyborg police officer, RoboCop, the organizers who roused the Internet have released photos of the monument near completion.

RoboCop has arrived in Detroit.

The series of unlikely events that led to the 10-foot tall RoboCop statue began, rather humbly, with a tweet.

Before long, there were plans to build a RoboCop statue in the form of Kickstarter campaign trying to raise $50,000 in crowd-funding from supporters in return for film memorabilia and the honour of backing a legendary project.

As it turns out, the public was willing to buy that for a dollar — and much more. The campaign raised more than $67,000, according to the Kickstarter page.

The new images posted on Sunday show the statue assembled in foam, wax, clay, and steel, according to the description. The organizers wrote that it would soon be cast in bronze.

Meanwhile, RoboCop made an appearance in Vancouver this weekend for re-shoots of the upcoming film remake, according to the Daily Mail tabloid. At least one resident posted video of the crew filming a driving scene.

We've no doubt he'll be back in his home city soon. Better stay out of trouble, Detroit.
