Human remains sent to 2 Vancouver schools: could be linked to Magnotta case

Vancouver police have confirmed that two human body parts, one foot and one hand, were delivered to two Vancouver schools --False Creek Elementary and St. George's private school -- on Tuesday afternoon.

At a media briefing, late Tuesday, Deputy chief Warren Lemcke announced that there's no indication that any specific individual was targeted at the school and that he didn't know whether the remains were sent via mail or courier.

Lemcke also said that he could not confirm whether the packages are connected to the dismembered body of Chinese student Lin Jun found in Montreal last week and the international manhunt for his alleged killer, Luka Rocco Magnotta.

"The remains will be examined by the coroner and there's no indication of an identity at this stage of the investigation," he said adding Vancouver police have liaised with police in Montreal.

"The investigation will centre on identifying of the victim and from where the packages were mailed."

Meanwhile, police in Montreal say the remains could be linked to the Magnotta investigation.

Unless there is clear evidence linking it to the Montreal crime, however, the contents will have to be analyzed before establishing a connection, Constable Anie Lemieux, a spokeswoman for the Montreal police told the Globe and Mail.

"We may suspect that it's linked (to the Magnotta case) but we can't confirm it for sure," she said.

On Tuesday morning, Montreal police said that body parts of murder victim Lin Jun were still missing.

Update:
