15 Times The Delivery Room Got Extremely Awkward After Babies Were Born Of A Different Race Than Their Parents
People in the Reddit community shared wild stories from the delivery room, where loyalty and infidelity were called into question. Here are just some of those jaw-dropping tales:
1."We had a very sweet blond-haired, blue-eyed mom and dad, along with their entire extended family, in the room for a delivery — think aunts, uncles, cousins, grandma, and grandpa."
"The baby is born, and as the doctor places her on the mom’s chest, the first words out of her mouth were, 'That’s not my baby! That’s not my baby!' The baby in question, who was still attached to the umbilical cord, had beautiful, curly black hair and dark skin. She, not so quietly, told the nurse, 'There’s no way. I never slept with a Black man! It’s not mine.' The father is standing there silent, not sure what to do.
A long, awkward silence filled the room. We cleaned her and the baby up as cheerfully as we could. We saw the extended family filter out of the room, and the father left to get a cigarette. About 10 minutes later, a tall Black guy walked up to our front desk, asking how to get to the patient in question’s room."
2."Anesthesiologist here. I've seen it more than once, but I remember one in particular when the parents were both very Caucasian, and the baby was very much not — the actual father obviously had to be very dark-skinned."
"At delivery, when the not-father saw the baby, he just looked down at his wife, who was starting to cry, and calmly said, 'You fucking whore,' and walked out. She started screaming for him to come back, but there wasn't much she could do since she was, you know, still being operated on. She lost it to the point I eventually had to sedate her just a bit because she was in danger of injuring herself. As far as I know, her husband never came back to the hospital. I don't know what happened after that."
3."Had two women give birth a few days apart on my floor. Turns out they actually had the same baby-daddy."
"The father of the two newborns got both patients pregnant around the same time. It was an interesting day for the social worker!"
4."My brother had a surprise baby this way. He and a coworker had a one-night stand while she was broken up with her ex. She got back with her ex and ended up pregnant. Flash-forward to delivery day, also known as the day my brother sent me a picture of a random baby out of the blue saying, 'I think I am a dad.'"
"She is white, her boyfriend is Black, and my brother is white. The baby came out looking very, very white. They separated very soon after. My brother went to visit her in the hospital and asked her if she would let him take a paternity test. She agreed, and it came back positive a week later. That's how I got my surprise nephew."
5."Someone in my extended family had a baby (two Middle Eastern parents) that turned out to be dark-skinned."
"The father of the baby filed for divorce, even though the mother kept saying the baby was his. A few years later, they found out that the mother's great-grandmother was African and that the baby obtained strong genes from her. They didn't get back together, because too much had gone down at that point, but the mother was right all along."
6."During my OB rotation in med school, I was caring for a patient with a very large family — the kind that all wanted to be part of the delivery process from beginning to end. They were having a baby girl, and the room was absolutely filled with pink presents."
"Anyways, I deliver the baby, and I’m horrified, thinking there was some sort of mutation in the baby’s vagina. After my initial shock, I realized it was simply a perfectly normal-looking baby penis and testicles. The 'congrats, it’s a boy,' was initially met with shock instead of excitement, but then everyone was so happy after understanding he was perfectly healthy. Apparently, even with good prenatal care, you can miss the male genitalia on ultrasounds about 1% of the time."
7."My sister's friend was born fair skin with red hair and green-hazel eye colored. Both parents are dark-skinned with black hair and brown eyes."
"When her mom gave birth, everyone in the room went silent. However, the father knew that his wife didn't cheat. It turned out, his wife's great-great-grandmother had red hair and fair skin. However, hospital protocol made both parents get a DNA test, and everything was okay."
8."The doctor delivered one baby where the father and mother were acting really awkward."
"He was around during labor, but when it came time to push, the man just walked out and left the room. Apparently, the issue was they were just friends and he lived in another state with his wife and kids."
9."I had a female patient come in with abdominal pain. We gave her a pregnancy test, and it was positive."
"She was with her husband, who, evidently, had a vasectomy about a year prior. I slowly backed out of the room after that one. Side note: Yes, I know it’s possible, just improbable."
10."I know a guy who is fully white; his parents are both white, and his younger sister is Black. I always assumed she was adopted, and one day when I mentioned it, he looked at me weirdly and was like, 'No dude, that’s my full-blood sister.'"
"Obviously, I didn’t believe it, and apparently neither did his dad at the birth. But they got the paternity test, and she was his daughter. Likelihood is they’ve got some Black ancestors far enough back to be forgotten about. I also know a dude who has a white, Scottish mum, and a Black Jamaican dad. Dude came out pale white with a ginger afro...genetics were not on his side, LOL!"
11."My aunt, who is white, is married to a Black man. When their son was born, he was white with blonde hair."
"The dad was screaming and throwing a fit in the hospital. The doctor came in, and it turns out their son is albino."
12."Both of my parents are Asians with black hair and black eyes; they also have darker skin compared to mine."
"I am the first of their kids; I have hazel eyes, brown hair, and pale skin. Nurses and doctors thought that my mom cheated and tried to convince my dad of that. In reality, both of my grandmothers are mixed, and I got some genes from both of them."
13."My biology teacher went to high school with a woman who had sex with her white boyfriend and then went and had sex with a Black guy later that same day."
"She ended up with twins; each guy fathered one girl. One was white-skinned, and one was dark-skinned. I think she came clean about it right away, so it wasn’t a huge shock later."
14."A friend of mine (white guy) never knew who his father was, got married, and had a kid with a white girl."
"The kid came out Black. My friend opted for a paternity test rather than walking away, and it was indeed his son. So he took a genetics test (23andMe or something like that) a couple of years later, and it was revealed that he has African ancestry."
15.Lastly, "Midwife from Australia here — the craziest delivery I attended was a G17P15 (which means the woman was pregnant 17 times, with 15 live children as a result of those pregnancies). There were three different dads."
"Over the short course of her labor with baby number 15, those dads proceeded to have a fist fight about who was the 'real' father, and I had to call security to escort them out. I followed that with a call to child services."
