4 Mass. Girls, Aged 9 to 17, Stabbed Randomly at Movie Theater

Four girls were injured in a random stabbing attack at a movie theater in Massachusetts.

The girls, aged 9 to 17, were stabbed by a man after he entered an AMC movie theater in Braintree, Mass., at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, the Braintree Police Department stated in a press release.

The attack appeared to be unprovoked, according to police. The girls all received non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Boston hospitals following the incident.

“He proceeded past the ticket counter and entered one of the theaters without paying,” officials said, per the release. “Inside of that theater, he encountered four young females. Without saying anything and without warning, he suddenly attacked and stabbed the four young females.”

The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Jared Ravizza from Chilmark, Mass., per Associated Press on Monday, May 27.

According to video footage obtained by police, Ravizza “ran out of the theater” after the attack and left the area in a black SUV. Law enforcement put out a general broadcast to find the suspect following his escape.

A vehicle matching the same description was reportedly involved in a similar attack afterward in Plymouth, Mass., per the release. A 21-year-old woman and 29-year-old man were stabbed in the at a McDonalds in Plymouth, the AP reported.

“It appears as though the crimes were related,” authorities said in the release. The driver was later located by Massachusetts State Police and “ultimately crashed” the vehicle after attempting to get away in the nearby town of Sandwich.

The victims in Plymouth also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital, according to the outlet.

Ravizza has been charged with multiple charges, including assault with intent to murder in connection with the attacks, WBZ News and WBMA reports. It is unclear if he's retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.
