Beyoncé postpones Jan. 14 announcement due to L.A. wildfire devastation
Beyoncé is delaying her highly anticipated January announcement in light of the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.
Almost as soon as the clock struck midnight on Jan. 14, Beyoncé shared a post to her Instagram telling fans that her announcement, slated for Tuesday, will now come at a later date.
"The January 14th announcement will be postponed to a later date due to the devastation caused by the ongoing wildfires around areas of Los Angeles. I continue to pray for healing and rebuilding for the families suffering trauma and loss," she wrote. "We are so blessed to have brave first responders who continue to work tirelessly to protect the Los Angeles community."
In the caption, she noted that her BeyGood foundation donated $2.5 million to support families who lost their homes and community organizations through its L.A. Fire Relief Fund. Before she signed off she wrote, "Please join us in supporting with whatever you can."
Beyoncé first teased the announcement last month by posting a cryptic Instagram post with the date Jan. 14 following her Christmas Day halftime performance, dubbed the Beyoncé Bowl.
As fans know, the megastar put on a stellar halftime show during the Ravens vs. Texans game at NRG Stadium in her hometown of Houston on Dec. 25. The show was the first time Beyoncé performed songs live from her eighth studio album, "Cowboy Carter." Immediately after, she posted today's date with the caption "Look at that horse" and went radio silent.
The wildfires began Jan. 7 after a series of strong winds. They have since ignited across the Los Angeles area, leaving a trail of destruction and killing at least 24 people while destroying thousands of structures, officials said Sunday. And Beyoncé has become one of many Hollywood stars to show their support since the fires started.
Beyoncé's family has also been affected by the wildfire devastation with her mom, Tina Knowles, reavealing her Malibu bungalow burned down over the weekend.
In a post on Instagram she wrote, "This is what I was looking at on my birthday this past weekend from my tiny little bungalow on the water in Malibu! It was my favorite place, my sanctuary, my sacred Happy Place. Now it is gone!! God Bless all the brave men and women in our fire department who risked their lives in dangerous conditions."
So far, the singer has not announced a new date.
