Calgary police warn public of Matthew Adrian Boyes' release

Calgary police are warning the public about a high-risk offender with a violent past who has recently been released from prison.

Matthew Adrian Boyes' history dates back 24 years and includes convictions for manslaughter and assault in both Edmonton and Calgary.

The 43-year-old has a history of violent offences against both strangers and those known to him as well as peace officers. Police say Boyes is more likely to offend when he's intoxicated by alcohol and drugs.

Boyes was released Monday after serving a two-year federal sentence for breaking the conditions of a peace bond.

He's currently being monitored by police as part of the High Risk Offender Program and is under strict release conditions.

Boyes is described as Aboriginal, six feet tall, 210 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion.

In a written release the Calgary Police Service says it issued the information after careful consideration of Boyes' privacy concerns.
