Chance Perdomo's Role in “GenV” Won't Be Recast for Season 2 After Sudden Death

The actor died after a motorcycle accident in March at age 27

The team behind Gen V is still grappling with the tragic loss of Chance Perdomo.

The actor, who played student Andre Anderson on the spinoff series of The Boys, died in March at the age of 27 after a motorcycle accident, his rep confirmed to PEOPLE at the time, and the Prime Video series has addressed how his absence will affect the forthcoming second season.

Gen V’s producers wrote in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on May 5, “As we continue to navigate the tragic loss of Chance Perdomo, everyone at Gen V is determined to find the best way to pay respect to his memory.”

“We won’t be recasting the role, because no one can replace Chance,” the statement continued. “Instead, we have been taking the time and space to recraft our Season 2 storylines as we begin production in May.”

The producers added that the show will “honor Chance and his legacy” in its upcoming season.

Following Perdomo’s death at the end of March, Deadline reported that Gen V had delayed filming on season 2, as the cast had been scheduled for their first table read on the day he died.

Tributes poured in from his cast members following the news of his death, with his costars Patrick Shwarzenegger, Robert Bazzocchi and Maddie Phillips all weighing in as they grieved the loss.

"This hurts. A lot. What a young talented actor, and a great friend - gone way too soon,” Schwarzenegger, who plays student Luke Riordan on the show, wrote in a tweet. “Was a pleasure to work with him in 'Gen V.' RIP Chance ❤️ ❤️ ❤️.”

Philips shared a statement on behalf of the show's cast on her Instagram Stories, writing, “Our hearts are with Chance's loved ones as we grieve this shocking loss. We will remember the special moments we had together, his infectious smile that could light up any room, his warm hugs and the authenticity he carried with him always. Rest in peace dear friend, you will be deeply missed."

Bazzocchi wrote in a comment on the statement shared by Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television on Instagram, “Wow. The first thing I said to him at the pilot table read was that he was one of my favorite actors on Sabrina. He’s a standout. So much talent and a warm soul.”

Several stars of The Boys weighed in, too, with cast members Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty and Karen Fukuhara reposting the studio’s statement on their Instagram Stories, while Antony Starr, who plays Homelander, described Perdomo’s death as “So goddam tragic” in a post.

Jessie T. Usher, who plays Reggie Franklin, also shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, writing, “🕊️🙏🏾 Tragic news. Rest in peace Chance. Thank you for giving us ‘Andre.’ ”

Perdomo, who was also known for his roles in the After movie franchise and Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, was described as "an enthusiastic force of nature, an incredibly talented performer, and more than anything else, just a very kind, lovely person," by the producers of Gen V following his death.

A statement on behalf of his family and representatives shared with PEOPLE said, "His passion for the arts and insatiable appetite for life was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth will carry on in those who he loved dearest."
