Coronation Street star Sair Khan updates fans after giving birth

Coronation Street actor Sair Khan has given fans an update on her parenthood journey after giving birth.

Sair, who has starred in the ITV soap as Alya Nazir since 2014, announced she had welcomed her son last month in a "raw and primal" birth experience.

She shared a picture cuddling up to the newborn, as well as a closeup of his feet and a snap of her partner Nathan Chilton holding the baby.

Taking to Instagram once more, Sair revealed she had found the early days of motherhood "tough" with her co-workers offering support.

"The last few weeks have been tough but beautiful," she wrote in the caption of the post, which featured images of Sair, Nathan, and their youngster taking a walk in some picturesque gardens.

"Navigating the ups and downs of the postnatal period with each day and night rolling into the next and countless challenges with latching and feeding. We’ve been to sort little man’s tongue tie this morning, so hopefully it’ll be the beginning of more settled times!"

She continued: "With feeds keeping us busy around the clock, it’s been so easy for me to stay home for days on end, working my way through every season of Suits as that’s all my brain and body can manage.

"Gentle nudges from Nathan about getting fresh air hadn’t really worked, and the idea of using a spare half hour to catch up on sleep still win every time, but ultimately the promise of cake and baby appointments have been the only way to get me out of the house lately.

"Now the mist is beginning to lift a little and I’m ready to get out and about more, I think. Hope the new Mamas out there are showing themselves lots of love and compassion.

"I thought I’d be back to regular life straight after birth but the reality has been very different, so just taking it step by step and trying not to feel guilty!"

Her Corrie pals offered words of encouragement for the new mum, with Maria Connor star Samia Longchambon writing: "Love your honesty Sair.. sending you so much love. Take one day at a time and whatever you feel like doing or (not) is fine! Go easy on yourself."

Sally Ann Matthews, who plays Jenny Bradley in the ITV soap, added: "Each journey is different, being open and not comparing yourself (and your child) to others is key. I know you’ve both got this. He’s a lucky boy x."

Leanne Battersby star Jane Danson said: "Big love to you all darling. I remember those days. Thank you for being so honest, I’m sure all the new mums and dads out there can relate."
