Katy Perry is the latest star to hop on the bob bandwagon (well, sorta).

The “Teenage Dream” singer, 39, decided to follow in the footsteps of stars like Ayo Edebiri and America Ferrera, who've both recently adopted the tucked-behind-the-ear “flippy bob” on the red carpet.

However, instead of actually chopping off inches, Perry decided to test run the hairstyle with a wig, which fooled plenty of fans.

Here’s how it started.

On April 29, Perry posted an Instagram video of celebrity hairstylist Jesus Guerrero putting the finishing touches on her piecey bob with a side bang. The American Idol judge films various angles of her new ‘do, as the hair pro snips at a few choppy layers.

She asked her fans if they had “thoughts, comments, concerns” — and they did. While some thought the look was a major serve, others wondered if she was returning to her 2016 “Witness era” when she had a dramatic blonde pixie cut with blunt bangs.

But later, Perry posted a few outfit photos of her in a sparkly blazer dress, pant boots and her hairstyle — which she confessed was a wig.

“You guys had a lot of strong feelings about my haircut,” she said casually. “Let’s see that energy with KP6 ‘cause this is just a wig.” (KP6 is seemingly in reference to her new music era.)

Her faux hair did get its moment in the spotlight though, because she decided to showcase it while filming an episode of American Idol on April 29.

While Perry is no stranger to short hair, it seems like she’s dedicated to keeping her long strands, which were last seen on the Spring Luncheon & Oscar de la Renta Fashion Show carpet on April 25.

For the event, Perry wore her black hair in a long and straight Cher-like hairstyle teamed with a white halter-neck gown with lace accents.

Her look was the perfect complement to her dates for the night, who happened to be her parents, Keith Hudson and Mary Perry. Perry posed in between her mom and dad who were dressed in all black.

Perry wore the same hairstyle at Coachella, for which she reserved some pretty racy festival looks that seemed to grab her fiancé, Orlando Bloom’s attention. "Babe I told ya to bring that belt,” he wrote under an Instagram photo of his wife-to-be wearing jeans down to her butt cheeks.
