Emmerdale's Michelle Hardwick on wife Kate Brooks' Coronation Street move

Emmerdale star Michelle Hardwick has responded to her wife Kate Brooks' move to rival soap Coronation Street.

Brooks, who has been a producer on Emmerdale since 2018, has this week been announced as the new producer of Coronation Street, taking over creative responsibilities from April onwards.

Hardwick, who plays Vanessa Woodfield in the ITV soap, paid tribute to her wife in a sweet post on Instagram, where she exclaimed: "PROUD WIFE ALERT".

In the caption, she wrote: "So the news is out that my beautiful, talented wife is swapping the Dales for the Cobbles to take on the role of Coronation Street Series Producer. I know everyone at Emmerdale will miss her smiley face and fabulous story brain. To all my friends at Coronation Street, you're very lucky, you've got a good one there.

"Good luck Kate! Me, Teddy and Betty are all so proud of you and love you all the world and more."

A number of Emmerdale cast members commented on Hardwick's post to congratulate Brooks, including Ash Palmisciano, who plays Matty Barton, who wrote: "She will smash it too, they are so lucky to have her."

Beth Cordingly, who plays Ruby Fox-Miligan, commented: "Awww. What a gorgeous post. We are all GUTTED. But very (grudgingly) happy for you both and for fabulous KB. Look after her @coronationstreet, you have no idea how lucky you are."

Meanwhile, Karen Blick, who plays Lydia Dingle, wrote: "Well done Kate, the Cobbles are very lucky, you'll be missed in the Dales."

On this week’s announcement, Brooks said in a statement: "I've had a wonderful time working on Emmerdale and I feel immensely proud to be part of a team that has achieved such great success over the past eight years. Both professionally and personally, Emmerdale has given me so much more than I ever could have imagined, and for that I shall be eternally grateful. Thanks Emmerdale, it's been an absolute pleasure."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
