Fire blackens Columbia Park near disc golf course, cause under investigation

A brush fire blackened about two acres of Columbia Park late Monday morning.

Kennewick firefighters were called to the area near the disc golf course about 11 a.m. when people spotted smoke, according to dispatch reports.

When firefighters arrived, they found about two acres of Russian olives and grass on fire.

Kennewick Fire Chief Chad Michael said firefighters were able to get the fire under control in about 30 minutes.

The section of Paul Parish Drive in front of the disc golf course was closed while firefighters battled the blaze. It was reopened within about an hour.

No one needed to be evacuated out of the area, and no one was hurt, Michael said. None of the park was damaged.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Smoke could be seen from the nearby Highway 240.
