Students at Holy Redeemer Elementary School in Spaniard's Bay are being relocated to neighbouring schools next week after a chemical odour was detected in the school.
The scent was first detected a week ago prompting the school to close down immediately, said Lynn Robinson in a statement on behalf of the Department of Education.
The students remain at home this week as the department continues the investigation.
Next week they'll be relocated "to ensure continuity of learning."
The statement didn't say how long the students will be out of their school.
Kindergarten to Grade 3 will go to Bay Roberts Primary, Grades 4 to 6 will go to All Hallows Elementary in North River and Grades 7 to 9 will go to St. Peter's Elementary in Upper Island Cove.
Teachers are being given time to set up their classrooms and prepare for learning in an alternative environment.
The statement says the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure will ensure transportation services to the new locations are available to students. An updated busing schedule will be available by the end of the day Friday on the N.L. Schools website.
"The department will work collaboratively with the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure to ensure minimal impact to students and staff during this time," the statement reads.
