Fonda is mom to daughter Vanessa, 56, whom she shares with ex-husband Roger Vadim. She shares son Troy, 50, and daughter Mary, 55, whom she welcomed via adoption, with ex-husband Tom Hayden.

In a February 2023 interview with CNN's Chris Wallace, Fonda admitted she wasn't the mom she wished she had been to her three children.

"I was not the kind of mother that I wished that I had been to my children. I have great, great children — talented, smart. And I just didn't know how to do it," Fonda said at the time.

"I've studied parenting, and I know what it's supposed to be now. I didn't know then. So I'm trying to show up now," added the 80 for Brady star.

This wasn't the first time Fonda has owned up to some of her parenting mistakes. In 2017, the star told PEOPLE, "I tell my kids I'm sorry," for not being more present in their lives at times.

"I'm thankful that I've gotten better over the 80 years … I'm less judgmental. I'm forgiving. It wasn't always true. I've really worked hard to get better as a human being."
