On KU hoops’ bench, Jalon Daniels’ health & ’24 football schedule: Kansas Jayhawks Q&A

It’s been a somewhat quiet week in the world of KU sports.

Still, there’s plenty to talk about.

KU is renovating David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, which means a full-blow demolition is happening now. Photos of the construction work offer a glimpse of what awaits.

Meanwhile, the Kansas men’s basketball team travels to Bloomington, Indiana on Saturday to face fellow hoops blueblood IU at Assembly Hall.

Let’s jump into another Kansas Jayhawks Q&A. As always, thank you for the questions!

Any thoughts on how Bill will roll out the rotation for Big 12 play? 7, 8, 9 guys?? Who gets the most of those bench minutes? What type of jump do you think Elmarko can take from now until the postseason starts? I really like how he’s coming along. — @capitaljayhawk

The seventh man is Johnny Furphy. The eighth is Nick Timberlake and Parker Braun is the ninth.

Elmarko still has a big jump in store on the offensive end; he’s hyper-athletic and a good shooter. He hasn’t completely put it together, but he’s shown flashes. I also expect his defense to improve as he gets used to Self’s system and the college game in general.

Are we concerned about Jalon’s health going into next year? –@ROLLHAWKS361526

I think he’ll be ready to go. The team’s been cautious about his injury all season; I expect them to elevate his workload as we get closer to fall camp.

As long as he has no setbacks, I expect him to be ready to go by the start of next season.

Will #kufball be capable of beating every team on their schedule next year? —@davis_mrmatt

The construction of KU’s 2024 schedule would seem to portend an easier road ahead than the one the Jayhawks traveled this fall.

Right now, I’d say they look capable of beating every team on next season’s schedule. But will they? Not likely.

Opposing teams can be better than they appear, KU could have injury issues for a particular game — any number of factors could prevent Kansas from winning a given game.

A lot — everything, really — would have to go right for KU to run the table.

How should we feel about the young D-linemen and linebackers moving forward? —-@Jahawkpigskin

Overall, the room has a good mix of youth and veterans, and depth.

Kansas returns defensive tackles Tommy Dunn and D.J. Withers. Underclassmen Marcus Calvin and Blake Herold come in with high expectations. Class of 2024 recruits Deshawn Warner and Dakyus Brinkley have had great senior seasons with their respective high school teams.

The linebackers’ room will be a little more seasoned, with JB Brown, Taiwan Berryhill, Jayson Gilliom and Cornell Wheeler all coming back next season. From the class of 2024, KU’s excited about Jacorey Stewart.

At the same time, the production of Rich Miller and Craig Miller will be missed — both are set to depart. Back-filling their contributions will be key.
