Lainey Wilson Announces 'Cathartic' New Album “Whirlwind”: 'I Hope This Record Brings Some Peace'

Wilson unveiled the cover artwork and release date for her upcoming fifth studio album

Lainey Wilson isn't slowing down anytime soon.

On Thursday, May 9, the "Wildflowers and Wild Horses” artist, 31, announced plans to release her fifth studio album, Whirlwind, sharing the news on Instagram alongside the cover artwork.

"That’s what my life has been the last couple years. I hope this record brings peace to your 'whirlwind' and wraps its arms around you like it did me when I was writing and recording it. August 23. Pre-order and pre-save it now!" she captioned the post.

The record, which will be released August 23, is "a daringly honest look into the country star's life and journey around the globe," per a press release.

"Whirlwind is an innovative and grounded extension of  Wilson’s signature sound. Bridging together a diverse yet sonically cohesive collection of songs, the record bends genres while remaining true to the singer’s Western roots," said a press release statement.

Additionally, Whirlwind will feature stories about the singer's "highs, lows, and in-betweens."

“I am so excited to finally announce Whirlwind. This album has been a long time coming and I can’t wait for the world to have this body of work in their hands soon,” said Wilson “This new chapter of music is the most cathartic and personal piece of art I’ve ever made. I hope this record brings some peace to your whirlwind and wraps its arms around you like it did for me," Wilson said in a statement.

On Thursday, May 9, Wilson also opened up to Billboard about her next album in a cover story.

Of the album title, she told the outlet: “Whether I’m running into somebody and they’re saying, ‘Man, your life has been a whirlwind,’ or whether the word’s coming out of my mouth, or I open a book and see the word ‘whirlwind,’ it just seems to be surrounding me."

Wilson added: “Whirlwinds cause turbulence that cause chaos. But at the end of the day, you figure out how to come back to the center.”

The "Country's Cool Again" singer also called Whirlwind "the Western sister of Bell Bottom Country," describing it as more “introspective” than her previous work.

“I feel like it’s got a little bit more character [and] cinematic storytelling," Wilson told the publication.

In addition to releasing a new record, the Grammy winner recently partnered with TC Restaurant Group to open Bell Bottoms Up, a three-story restaurant and bar in Nashville. She will also be the subject of the Hulu special Lainey Wilson: Bell Bottom Country, which will air May 29 — just two days prior to her Country’s Cool Again Tour launch on Friday, May 31.
