Mark Consuelos Debuts New Buzz Cut for Upcoming Role — and Wife Kelly Ripa Approves: 'It's Like a Chinchilla'

"I do this every couple of years," the actor said on 'Live with Kelly and Mark'

Mark Consuelos is shedding the shag for summer!

The actor has a brand new buzz cut, showing off the hair change on the Monday, July 1 episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.

"Do not adjust your TV screens — yes, I got my haircut," Consuelos, 53, said. "It’s like a chinchilla!"

"I’ve never rubbed an actual chinchilla but I suspect this is what it feels like," his wife and co-host Kelly Ripa, 53, said, rubbing his head. "We should give everyone in the audience an opportunity. ... Look at how I take it all for granted, don’t I? I take it all for granted!"

Consuelos went on to note that he cuts his hair "every couple of years" and has since he and Ripa got married 28 years ago. In fact, he was flirting with doing it a few weeks back — Ripa at the time urging him to keep it longer.

But this time, Ripa explained, Consuelos "Didn't have a choice" and "had to do it."

"Yeah, I got a TV job," Consuelos said. "A role in a pilot, and they said, ‘Can you cut it short?’ And I said, ‘How short? … Military?’ And they said, ‘Military.’ "

The Riverdale alum didn't elaborate more about the gig, except to clarify that he's not playing someone in the military.

"I’ve been trying to get intel out of him," Ripa said, implying that she didn't even know what the role was. "And this is why I think we’ve been married so long, you’re so cagey about the details and that not unconvinced that you are also, like your parents, in the CIA."

"No that’s just called being a man," Consuelos responded, joking about the one-word answers men often give when talking to their wives. "'How was work?' 'Good' 'What scenes did you shoot today?’ ‘Just stuff.’ "

The only thing Ripa knew for sure, she revealed, was that the TV series shot in Atlanta. "Because IW as in Atlanta," she teased. "I was being a Hollywood wife."

The couple also took another trip this summer, to Geneva, Switzerland.

It was their first time there, though their daughter Lola, 23, — who they were traveling with — "goes their quite a bit."

"Hats off to the people in Switzerland. We were only in one city but it's the cleanest. Not a piece of gum or a wrapper," Consuelos said, Ripa joking, "We were searching for dirt!"

Photos from the trip were shared by Ripa and Consuelos on Live with Kelly and Mark. The pair also posted pictures from their getaway on social media.

"It was really lovely," Ripa said, noting she arrived in Switzerland first, while Consuelos was still shooting in Atlanta. ."Because I know Mark and I know my daughter, I did all of the touristy things that I know that they won't do with me because they'll be too embarrassed. 'You look like a tourist' 'Guess what — I am!' "
