Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos weren't sure about working together again when the idea first came about.

The couple recently opened up about their hesitations about bringing their marriage to the screen and becoming co-hosts of Live With Kelly and Mark.

Consuelos, 53, shared during the April 17th episode of Ripa’s Let's Talk Off Camera podcast that although they first met working on the set of All My Children, they had initial concerns about hosting the daily morning talk show together. The conversation aired to commemorate Consuelos's one-year anniversary as co-host of the show, which followed Ryan Seacrest's exit from the series in early 2023 after six years.

The couple’s chat shed light on how both of them first opposed the idea. "So, when they asked me, we both said, 'No, this is insane. We can't do this,’” Consuelos recalled. "I'm like, 'No, you know, no.' The answer was no, but we'll talk about it, but just kind of try to get them off our back a little bit."

“And then when we talked about it,” Consuelos admitted, noting that they took into account different “key deciding factors.” He revealed that one of those factors included the fact that he’d be local and with his wife every day.

The Riverdale actor explained that “over the past seven years,” he was constantly traveling for work. “I had been gone so much. I’d been in different countries, different states, on a damn airplane every week, if not twice a week," he said.

Consuelos revealed that "sometimes" he would travel to spend 24 hours with Ripa and then "get back on a plane and go back to work."

“I was kinda tired of living by myself," Consuelos divulged. "I don’t sleep well, like away from you. I literally don’t sleep.”

“It’s ironic,” quipped Ripa, 53, as the two erupted in an uproar of laughter.

“Then we just started talking about it,” he added.

“You made pros and cons list,” Ripa interjected, with Consuelos quickly confirming.

“The cons were just stuff that weren’t going to happen,” explained Consuelos. “I know one of the cons, you said, 'Well, what if you never get to act again?' and I said, 'I know me and you can't tell me I'm never gonna do anything again.'"

That last sentiment has remained true, as Consuelos has a recurring role on Max's new series, The Girls on the Bus, while still serving as co-host alongside his wife.
