After eight long months, Midnight Diner is back.

The 24/7 diner and local staple reopened at its new location in uptown Charlotte. It’s iconic stainless steel boxcar was transported in November from it’s longtime spot in South End to a nearly 1-acre site at 420 E. Trade St.

Catherine Muccigrosso has the latest on its reopening.

2. How early morning and mom’s late-stage dementia led radio star to leave ‘Matt & Ramona’

“It’s usually, you know, somebody got sick, management got angry, somebody messed up, the relationship fell apart. But it’s none of those things,” Ramona Holloway says.
“It’s usually, you know, somebody got sick, management got angry, somebody messed up, the relationship fell apart. But it’s none of those things,” Ramona Holloway says.

Last Monday, the Charlotte radio station The Mix 107.9 announced it would air the final installment of “The Matt & Ramona Show” the following day because one half of it was stepping away from her mic.

“I simply walked away for me. Because of changes in my life that I’d like to make,” Ramona Holloway told the Observer in an extensive interview about how she landed her new job as community affairs manager for Radio One Charlotte.

Théoden Janes spoke with Holloway about her departure and what’s next.

10/11/98 (L-R) Billy Hoover plays the tambourine Sunday morning as a church leader sprays water onto a crowd of thousands during a baptismal service at the the United House of Prayer for All People on Freedom Drive.

It was Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998 and an estimated 3,000 people were baptized in a “parking lot-turned-church” on Freedom Drive.

The “fire-hose font” (as one article put it) was part of the 72nd annual convocation at the House of Prayer for All People.

The story, told by Tim Funk of The Charlotte Observer, detailed the moment the fire hoses — gripped by church elders — let loose. Funk wrote that the church’s then-bishop prepared his flock for the holy waters saying “In the name of Jesus ... Let Jordan go!”
