More ‘Justified’ for Modesto’s Timothy Olyphant? What’s being said after surprise ending
Boyd is back.
The surprise ending to what was supposed to be a one-off sequel to Modesto-bred Timothy Olyphant’s hit series “Justified” left some questions unanswered.
The most pressing: Will there be a another sequel following the recently completed “Justified: City Primeval” on FX?
There’s been plenty of speculation across entertainment websites as to whether there’s more to come.
In the final minutes of “Primeval,” Walton Goggins reprises his role from the original “Justified,” where he was last seen in prison. Boyd Crowder claims he has a terminal illness before he is transferred to another facility.
“Of course, as often is the case with Boyd, it’s a con. During the transfer, Boyd escapes with help from an accomplice — a prison guard he’s seemingly seduced — and the two of them hit the open road,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It comes soon after Raylan (Emmy-nominated Olyphant) retires from the U.S. Marshals service. “News of Boyd’s escape, however, gets as far as Raylan’s cell phone before the series closes. How will Marshal Givens respond when he picks up that call? That’s either the stuff of a future Justified season, or will forever be left up to the audience’s imagination,” the Hollywood Reporter story said.
As of now, there’s no news of another season. According to various websites, it appears to be a decision for FX.
Executive producer and co-showrunner Michael Dinner talked to TVLine about the possibility. “It’s up to FX — what they want to do, if they want to tell another chapter” of Raylan’s story, Dinner told TVLine. “If they don’t, then, you know, it was good to do this, and we feel really good about where we ended.”
As for Olyphant, a Beyer High graduate with family still in Modesto, he appears to be up for another stint in Raylan Given’s infamous Stetson.
He said as much in a July email interview with The Bee.
“I would be interested. For sure,” he said of another season. “We’ll see. Stay tuned. …”
