It’s not just any day. In North Miami Beach, it’s ‘DJ Khaled Day’

As nearly 200 attendees at the North Miami Beach Small Business Summit and Expo patiently waited for programming related to entrepreneurship, they didn’t know a celebrity mogul was about to take the mic.

Then DJ Khaled walked onstage.

“God did,” the Miami-based music producer and entrepreneur said, greeting the surprised audience at the city’s Julius Littman Performing Arts Theater.

Those two words are the name of Khaled’s 2022 hit song and an affirmation he uses often. The 48-year-old artist, whose real name is Khaled Mohammed Khaled, made a special appearance to receive a proclamation honoring Wednesday, May 8, 2024, as DJ Khaled Day in North Miami Beach.

North Miami Beach Mayor Evan S. Piper and city commissioners joined the Grammy Award-winning hitmaker onstage as he received his proclamation.

The proclamation made Khaled emotional as he reminisced about crafting most of his hit records in a North Miami Beach studio.

“This is very beautiful and means a lot to me and my family,” he said. “Big ups to all the mothers and fathers in the building today. This makes me inspired to keep going.”

The performer’s entrepreneurial journey was meant to inspire attendees, most of whom are small business owners in the community. Now in its third year, the expo is designed to support entrepreneurs in North Miami Beach through informational sessions, career coaching and networking with sponsors such as Comcast Business and the Miami Foundation.

Khaled became famous for his hit records with artists like Jay-Z and viral social media clips sharing positive affirmations. He collaborates with Nike and has a We The Best sneaker store on South Beach.

His We The Best Foundation is his outlet for giving back and paying his success forward.

“We’re locked and loaded with We The Best Foundation to give back to our people, our community and to also inspire the young world to be on this stage so they can have their day and their honor,” Khaled told the audience.

The crowd applauded loudly as Khaled walked offstage to his 2007 hit song “We Takin’ Over.” If the high energy from the event’s attendees was any indication, North Miami Beach is doing just that.
