The Office Spinoff Gets Series Order, First Official Details — Who’s Returning?

The “reboot” of The Office that we’ve all been talking about for more than six months is actually better described as a spinoff, given that it will bring back a key (if never-seen!) group of characters from the NBC series.

Peacock announced on Wednesday that it has ordered to series a new, yet-to-be-titled comedy from Greg Daniels (who adapted the UK’s The Office for us yanks) and Nathan for You co-creator Michael Koman.

In the new mockumentary-style series “set in the same universe” as NBC’s Steve Carell-fronted The Office,” the intrepid, tireless documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper, and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.

As previously reported, Domhnall Gleeson (Alice & Jack) and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus) will lead the ensemble cast when the series begins production in July.

“It’s been more than 10 years since the final episode of The Office aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock,” Lisa Katz, president, scripted content, NBCU Entertainment said in a statement. “In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper.”

The new series will be executive-produced by Daniels and Koman along with UK Office creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, plus Howard Klein, Ben Silverman and Banijay Americas (fka Reveille).
