Picayune, George County headline the All-Region 4-6A high school football team

There may not have been a tougher district to compete in.

What one coach called the “SEC of the Coast,” Region 4-6A produced one of the toughest district schedules in the state. Picayune earned a region title for the third straight year, Hancock and George County had historical seasons and Pascagoula reached the postseason for the first time since 2020.

The Maroon Tide lead the district with 11 All-MVP picks with George County just behind with 10 selections.

Coach of the Year

Jacob Massey, Long Beach

Massey’s Bearcats showed significant signs of improvement in year two. Long Beach snapped a 29-game losing streak, won multiple games for the first time in five years and fielded its best offense since 2018.

Player of the Year

Amarion Tyson, Picayune

Tyson has once again been a stop machine. The senior linebacker is leading the Maroon Tide with 113 tackles and has racked up 22 tackles for loss. Tyson also has five sacks and four fumble recoveries and has helped lead Picayune to a third straight South State title game appearance.

Co-Offensive MVPs

Dylan Moran, Hancock and Deuce Knight, George County

The two quarterbacks had a whirlwind season. Moran’s 28 touchdown passes helped lead the Hawks to their best season since 2017. Knight missed a chunk of the season due to transferring back from Lipscomb Academy in Tennessee, but the Notre Dame commit guided the Rebels to their first eight-win season since 2007.

Defensive MVP

Jamonta Waller, Picayune

The Auburn commit has terrorized opponent backfields with 22 tackles for a loss and nine sacks so far. Waller has 64 tackles, two forced fumbles and a blocked punt. The senior is currently the top-ranked prospect in the state.
