‘Rescue: Hi-Surf’ Adds ‘Animal Kingdom’s Shawn Hatosy & ‘The Resident’s Ian Anthony Dale In Heavily Recurring Roles

EXCLUSIVE: Shawn Hatosy (Animal Kingdom) and Ian Anthony Dale (Accused, The Resident) have joined the cast in heavily recurring roles on the network’s upcoming Rescue: HI-Surf, the long-in-the-works lifeguard drama from John Wells and Matt Kester.

Hatosy will play Clayton Emerson, a natural politician and the father of rookie lifeguard Kainalu (Alex Aiono). Councilman Emerson is a shoe-in as the next Honolulu Mayor, a position that can work to his and Sonny’s (Robbie Magasiva) mutual advantage when it comes to getting things they want.

The role reunites Hatosy with his Animal Kingdom team of Wells and Kester. Hatosy will also direct the 12th episode of Rescue: Hi-Surf, which has been picked up for 19 episodes by Fox. It will air during the 2024-25 season.

Dale will play Sean Harimoto, a local fireman who winds up working with Em (Arielle Kebbel) on a rescue. Impressed by Em’s fearless approach towards her job, Sean is interested in getting to know her better.

Rescue: HI-Surf follows the personal and professional lives of the heavy-water lifeguards who patrol and protect the North Shore of O’ahu—the most famous and dangerous stretch of coastline in the world. Each episode will feature these dedicated, heroic, and adrenaline-seeking first-responders saving lives in the difficult and often life-threatening conditions of Hawaii’s Seven Mile Miracle.

Besides Magasiva (WentworthBad Behaviour) and Kebbel (The Vampire Diaries), the series also stars Adam Demos (Sex / Life, UnReal), Kekoa Kekumano (The White LotusAquaman), Alex Aiono (Pretty Little Liars: Original SinDoogie Kameāloha M.D), and Zoe Cipres (Roswell, New MexicoLong Pork). Sea Shimooka (3 Body ProblemArrow) will appear in a recurring role.

Rescue: HI-Surf is co-produced by Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment Studios. Kester created the series and executive produces. Wells, Daniele Nathanson and Erin Jontow also executive produce. Kester will write the first episode, and Wells will direct the first two episodes.

Dale is repped by Charlton Blackburne Management and Felker, Toczek, Suddleson & Abramson.
