Outlander star Sam Heughan has shared his opinion on the spin-off series Blood Of My Blood as filming begins in Scotland.

The hit series followed the story of Claire Randall (Caitríona Balfe) a former military nurse from 1945, who travels back in time to 1743, where she falls in love with Jamie Fraser (Heughan).

A spin-off series was confirmed last year, teasing the romance story of Jamie's parents in the eighteenth century, as well as Claire's parents in England during World War I.

Speaking at Land Con 6 during a panel about Outlander, Heughan revealed that fans of the show are "going to love Blood Of My Blood."

"I’m really excited about this show. There is so much to look forward to. This show, I can’t give anything away, but I’m going to be the biggest fan. I’ve been hearing stories about the actors, about the characters, and the storyline… I can’t wait to see it," he continued, as reported by OK!.

Claire's parents Julie and Henry will be played by Sea Fever star Hermione Corfield and War Horse's Jeremy Irvine, respectively. Meanwhile, Jamie's parents, Brian and Ellen, will be portrayed by Jamie Roy and Harriet Slater.

Other stars announced in the cast include Mayflies actor Tony Curran as Lord Lovat, Pistol's Rory Alexander as Murtagh, and The Tourist star Conor MacNeill as Fraser family lawyer Ned Gowan. Jamie's grandmother will be played by Endeavour star Sara Vickers.

Sharing what fans can expect when the series was announced, showrunner Matthew B Roberts said: "Blood Of My Blood is, at its heart, a love story. It will explore to what lengths a person will go to find love in a time when love is considered a luxury, and when marriages are made strategically, often for political or financial gain.

"The title is a nod to Jamie Fraser's marriage vow to Claire, and there will be several names and faces that Outlander fans will know and recognise.

Jamie and Claire's TV story may be coming to an end with season eight, but Diana Gabaldon is continuing with their literary journey in her wonderful book series and is working diligently on book 10.

"With Jamie and Claire, and now Brian and Ellen, there is still so much more to come in the Outlander universe, and we cannot wait to continue sharing these stories with our dedicated fans."

Outlander airs on Starz in the US, and streams via Prime Video in the UK.
