The Savannah Bananas are coming to Kannapolis. Why this wacky baseball team is so popular

The Savannah Bananas are set to play at Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis on Tuesday and Wednesday this week – and both games are already sold out.

In fact, to get tickets for any road game, fans of the team have to fill out a form to join a waitlist for their 2023 Banana Ball World Tour.

So, what’s their appeal?

The Bananas, an exhibition baseball team founded in 2016, are known for their eccentric on-field antics.

Hailed as “TikTok’s favorite baseball team” by CNN, their account has more than 7 million followers, with videos of players performing choreographed dances to sped up versions of Mariah Carey’s “It’s a Wrap” and Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” garnering nearly 100 million views.

Players have also accepted dares from TikTok users, such as wearing a banana costume while at bat or riding a horse onto the field.

The Bananas are also the only baseball team that plays in kilts. They are often accompanied by the Banana Nanas, a senior citizen dance team, and the Man-Nana’s, a “dad bod cheerleading squad,” according to the team’s website.

How to get tickets

General admission tickets for games on Tuesday and Wednesday – which usually go for $25 – are sold out, but there are a few tickets available on third-party websites.

Viagogo has some tickets available, but you’ll have to pay at least $248 a piece for them.

Tickets are not available on SeatGeek, but you can sign up for email updates to score last-minute seats.
