Shirley MacLaine, born April 24, 1934, is an Oscar-winning American actress who rose to prominence in the 1950s and ’60s with films such as “The Apartment,” “Ask Any Girl” and “Ocean’s Eleven,” among others. She won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 1984 for her performance in “Terms of Endearment.” Throughout her illustrious, decorated career, the movie star has maintained a unique sense of style and a confidence all her own.

1959
Known for her short red hair, MacLaine always had a unique look in Hollywood. The actress could easily fashion looks and play characters who were refined and elegant and those who were crafty. Here, the actress poses for a promotional shot for the 1958 film “Some Came Running.”
1971
By 1971, MacLaine was a star, and toyed with her style and approach to fashion. Of course, her style was heavily influenced by the decade, as seen here in this 1971 snapshot where MacLaine is wearing a flowing pink top, purple skirt and bright red mary jane ballet flats.
1980

2003
By the early 2000s, MacLaine cemented herself as an acting legend. The movie star often graced several red carpets during these years of her career, including the 60th annual Golden Globe Awards in January 2003. For the event, the Oscar winner wore a sparkling black-and-white suit.

By the 2010s, MacLaine became more selective of her acting work, starring in a film or TV series roughly once each year. She’s maintained public appearances and after an incredible career has earned several honors and awards including the receipt of a Kennedy Center Honor in 2013.
