Single vehicle crash kills Kentucky high school teacher, leaves three juveniles injured

A Jessamine County school teacher died in a car crash Tuesday afternoon, according to Versailles police.

The wreck happened on Shannon Run Road in Woodford County, according to Rob Young, assistant police chief for the Versailles Police Department. A vehicle went off the road, killing the driver and sending three juvenile occupants to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

Abigail Dobie, 38, of Wilmore, died in the crash, according to Woodford County Coroner Penny Baker. The Jessamine County School District confirmed to the Herald-Leader that Dobie was a teacher at West Jessamine High School.

The condition of the three juveniles is unknown. Young said the police department’s collision reconstruction unit is investigating the crash.

Jessamine County Schools Superintendent Matt Moore shared a letter to the parents of Jessamine County Schools students following the news of Dobie’s death, saying she was a positive influence and had an impact that extended outside of the school.

“Just as Abby is known for her kindness, compassion and for caring for those most in need, I am confident that our JCS team will pull together to be their ‘rock,’ surrounding them with our love and support,” Moore wrote in the letter. “Please especially keep our West High, East Middle and Wilmore school families in your thoughts and prayers.”

Moore said counselors will be available for students and staff affected by Dobie’s death.

“Abby leaves a great legacy in the positive difference that she has made in hundreds, if not thousands, of students’ and staff members’ lives,” Moore wrote in the letter. “We will be forever grateful and she will be dearly missed.”
