Neighbours help fix Summerside woman's damaged roof

Sue Campbell of Summerside won't have to worry about a leaking roof this winter, thanks to a group of neighbours who rallied together over the weekend.

The roof on Campbell's home was damaged from the heavy snow last winter. A tarp covered the worst of the damage and Campbell was using buckets to catch the water that leaked into her home.

The tarp caught the attention of her neighbour, Tanya Winchester.

"It all came about because she had a tarp hanging over the side. It kinda blew over to my side, and I asked her what was up. She told me, well, I have buckets everywhere in my house."

It didn't take long for others to come forward and offer their help.

"I saw a post on Facebook, Sue helped a family member of mine last year when they were sick," said Tara Cormier. "It was awesome that we could help her and give back as well."

Money and supplies donated

A bank account was set up to accept the donated funds. Local businesses donated supplies and volunteers showed up Saturday to fix the roof.

"We didn't even have to ask. We just said this is what's happening and this is the time," said Winchester. "We came out and there's like 12 people on the roof shingling and ripping stuff off."

Campbell says she couldn't believe what was being done for her.

"There was a dumpster in the driveway, the amount of people that showed up to do the work is unbelievable."

In addition to having the roof on her home fixed so her home will be warm and dry this winter, Campbell was given $1,000. She plans to use the money to repair the water damage in her ceiling.

"I want to say thank you to everybody. It's a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful feeling," said Campbell.
