Sunnyside bounces back for a big win, faces Kennewick next + Region’s latest scores

Sunnyside’s football team got back on the winning track, beating visiting Post Falls of Idaho 41-35.

The Grizzlies — who lost their season opener 19-13 to Prosser in overtime — were led by quarterback Ethan Avalos, who passed for 231 yards and four touchdowns on Friday.

Eli Fernandez scored three touchdowns — one on an interception return — and had 6 catches for 89 yards. Teammate Cody Diddens added 9 catches for 71 yards and a score.

Sunnyside steps out of the Columbia Basin Big Nine again this week, when it travels to Lampson Stadium to play Kennewick at 7 p.m. Thursday.

LIBERTY CHRISTIAN 20, DESALES 14: Charlie Branning carried the football 23 times for 159 yards rushing and two touchdowns as the Patriots beat conference rival DeSales in an 8-man game Thursday at Kamiakin.

The game was tied at 14-14 through three quarters before the Pats broke free with a fourth-quarter score.

GRANDVIEW 10, WAPATO 0: Alejandro Garcia-Diaz scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter to help lead the Greyhounds over Wapato in a non-league game Friday.

Garcia-Diaz finished with 110 yards rushing on 15 carries, while teammate Nathan Montes de Oca added 96 yards on 11 carries.

The Greyhounds open CWAC play on Thursday at Prosser.

SKYLINE 56, PROSSER 21: Prosser QB Kory McClure passed for 273 yards and a touchdown, but it wasn’t enough as the Mustangs fell on the road to Class 4A Skyline on Friday.

Erik Delgado added 9 catches for 67 yards, and six carries for 35 yards rushing.

COLUMBIA-BURBANK 44, KIONA-BENTON 8: The visiting Coyotes bounced back from a Week 1 loss to Okanogan to beat 1A Ki-Be.

Elijah Kinsey rushed 13 times for 158 yards and two touchdowns to lead Burbank, while teammate Mathew Wilder added 54 yards rushing on 8 carries. Wilder also scored two TDs.

RIVER VIEW 38, COLLEGE PLACE 21: The visiting Panthers are 2-0 after beating the 1A Hawks.

Trayce Teagle was the standout for River View, catching 5 passes for 145 yards and three touchdowns. Teagle also had two interceptions on defense.

Panthers QB Hyatt Clark was 11 for 17 passing for 243 yards, and all three of his TD passes were to Teagle.

Karson Rawlings added 115 yards rushing for the Panthers, while free safety Austin Eckhardt was in on 12 tackles.

ROYAL 42, OTHELLO 7: Lance Allred took part in five touchdowns — three passes and two runs — to lead the host Knights over Class 2A Othello on Friday.

Allred was 12 for 21 passing for 209 yards, and he rushed for another 53 yards on seven carries.

Case Christensen added 4 catches for 73 yards, while middle linebacker Jared Lee led Royal with 13 tackles.
