Sydney Sweeney ditches blonde for gothic dark hair transformation

Sydney Sweeney has traded her blonde locks for a darker hue, debuting black hair at the Met Gala.

The Euphoria star took to the Metropolitan Museum of Art steps in a Miu Miu show-stopping, sky blue gown that exemplified the dress code for the night, The Garden of Time. She paired the fairytale-inspired, floral outfit with dark opera gloves and a jet black bob for a gothic touch.

The look is a departure from Sydney's usual appearance, as well as her 2023 Met Gala number. On that occasion, the Anyone But You protagonist also chose Miu Miu, donning a bejewelled baby doll pink dress and a dramatic black bow pinned to her wavy blonde hair to honour late Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld.

This year's Met Gala, once again celebrated in New York on the first Monday in May, provided Sydney with a mini Euphoria reunion.

She posed for photographers with co-star Colman Domingo, who was wearing an oversized white Willy Chavarria suit with black accents and white cape.

Colman's look paid tribute to two late Black icons, journalist André Leon Talley and Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, who both wore capes when attending the event.

As for Sydney, she's enjoying the success of her latest film, nun horror Immaculate, in which she starred and served as producer. Set in a seemingly idyllic convent in Italy that harbours a sinister secret, the film was a passion project for the actor, who first auditioned for the role of Sister Cecilia ten years ago.

The star revealed it took a decade before the film could be brought to audiences, citing her stint in The Handmaid's Tale as the reason that prompted her to save Immaculate from development hell.

"I always would randomly think about it. Every year, in the most random moments, it would pop into my mind," she said in an exclusive chat with Digital Spy.

"One of the biggest turning points for me when I was like: 'I'm going to be determined to make this happen' was when I was filming Handmaid's Tale. I remember I emailed my agents and asked them: 'Did they ever make Immaculate?' and when they wrote me back no, I knew that I was going to go after it and make it myself."

Immaculate is available to buy and rent digitally in the UK from Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store and more.
