You would think that after Donald Trump stormed to victory on Super Tuesday, all eyes would be on the US presidential hopeful.

However, it was actually all eyes on New Jersey governor Chris Christie, who last week endorsed the controversial Republican candidate.

As businessman Trump gave a typically bombastic victory speech on election night, Christie was stood behind him watching on.

And his face seemed to speak volumes as his look, a mixture of ‘is this really happening?’ and ‘what have I done?’ probably represented the view of a fair few other people.

Twitter soon picked up on it and went to town:

A Vine that added in some music from Larry David comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm also went viral, perfectly capturing the mood of the moment:

Christie’s endorsement of Trump came as something of a surprise to many - and it’s fair to say his decision has not gone down well.

Several New Jersey newspapers have demanded he resign the state governorship, labelling him “an utter disgrace”.

The wins for Trump in the biggest day of the race for presidential nominations means it is increasingly likely he will be the Republican candidate.

Hillary Clinton’s gains make the the favourite to represent the Democrats in the fight to become the next US president.
