‘Unlock a brighter future’: Dufferin-Caledon working toward empowering Black youth

The Ontario government is investing in career paths to empower Black youth and young professionals in Dufferin-Caledon.

This investment is made possible through the Black Youth Action Plan (BYAP) economic empowerment stream, which the Ontario government invested $16.5 million into.

According to the Government of Ontario’s website, BYAP works toward eliminating systemic, race-based disparities by increasing opportunities for Black children, youth and families across the province.

“Our government is proud to support the next generation of Black leaders through continued investment in these outstanding community organizations,” said Michael Ford, Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism, in a news release.

“The Black Youth Action Plan represents our government’s ongoing commitment to building a stronger and more inclusive Ontario by helping Black youth and young professionals develop critical skills and unlock a brighter future for themselves and their communities.”

As a way of addressing and eliminating systemic race-based disparities, Ontario is sharing its commitment to collaborating with community organizations and Black-led businesses.

Sylvia Jones, MPP for Dufferin Caledon, said she sees the meaningful impact community organizations have in helping Black youth and young professional maximize their potential. She said they want to help youth find meaningful employment and unlock a better future for themselves and their communities.
