Sara Haines is looking back at her own experience with dating in the workplace.

On the Thursday, May 23, episode of The View, the 46-year-old television personality recalled dating a coworker before marrying her husband Max Shifrin during a conversation about Donald Trump prosecutor Nathan Wade’s relationship with Fulton County, Ga. district attorney Fani Willis.

"I did dip in the company ink when I was single," Haines admitted. "There are right ways to do this, and wrong ways. Don’t do it in a department where there’s power dynamics. I dated someone in a complete different wing of the building, I did not deal with him daily."

She continued: "He was a lawyer, so of course when he told me, I had to disclose this to HR, I was like, what? We’re a thing, right?"

Haines’ cohost Sunny Hostin then pressed Haines — who previously worked at NBC before joining ABC in 2013 — about what happened when the romance didn’t work out, asking, "What happens, Sara, when you break up and you’ve seen each other naked and now you’ve got to walk by each other?”

“Well, awkward in the office is not unique to romantic relationships,” Haines responded. “There are a lot of dynamics in offices that are weird, it’s called being a grown-a-- adult. It was fine, we dated for years, it was great.”

"I don’t know how some people avoid it when you come to a place to work around the clock, to try to make a career," she added. "You’re with people all the time!"

Following her workplace romance, Haines met her now-husband Shifrin on a dating app after she created a profile for a segment on Good Morning America.  According to Haines, despite its challenges, she was determined to "participate" in the dating world.

She echoed similar words years later while sitting beside Shifrin as they shared their love story.

“I believe you have to create your own luck, so I thought I’m not running into my boo at a produce department or tripping on him on a street, like all the rom-coms told me I would, so I need to add some effort here,’ ” she told Yahoo! Lifestyle in 2019.

Shifrin, who admittedly “had no idea” who Haines was, came across her profile on OkCupid, and the two began dating in 2012. The couple went on to wed in 2014 and are now parents of three kids: Alec Richard, Sandra Grace and Caleb Joseph.
