Volunteers still 'urgently' needed to remove sandbags in West Carleton, city says
The City of Ottawa is calling on volunteers to help residents in West Carleton remove sandbags this weekend now that floodwaters have receded and the focus has shifted to clearing them away.
Volunteers aged 16 and older are "urgently" needed in Fitzroy Harbour, Constance Bay and Dunrobin on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the city said in a media release Wednesday.
People who would ike to donate their time can go to Constance Bay Community Centre on:
- Friday, May 26, between 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- Saturday, May 27, between 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Sunday, May 28, between 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The city is offering an OC Transpo shuttle service from the Eagleson Park and Ride every two hours from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to help volunteers get to and from the West Carleton locations on Saturday and Sunday.
Volunteers will be given gloves and are asked to wear comfortable clothing, including long sleeves, pants and boots.
