Baby badly burned in Paso Robles when fireworks launch into her car seat

A family is asking for help after a baby girl was badly burned by Fourth of July fireworks in Paso Robles.

Yocelyne Espinoza created a GoFundMe on behalf of her 11-month-old niece, Emma, who is currently at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno receiving care for “serious burns.”

On the Fourth of July, the fundraiser said, fireworks errantly launched into the infant’s car seat. The car seat had the sun cover up, the GoFundMe said, ”and the firework had no escape.”

The fireworks burned the infant’s entire right arm, leg and part of her cheek, the GoFundMe said.

Manuel Muñoz, who identified himself as Emma’s uncle in a Facebook comment sharing the fundraiser, said the incident was a “freak accident.”

He said legal fireworks fell off a ladder and the sparks went straight into Emma’s car seat.

“Please reserve judgment,” he said in the Facebook comment. “Nobody is perfect and it is absolutely no one’s fault.”

The fundraiser hopes to help cover medical expenses, gas and the stay in Fresno.

The goal of the fundraiser is $12,000. As of 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, it had raised more than $4,200.

The Tribune reached out to the child’s mother, but she declined to comment.
