Baby Reindeer's Richard Gadd opens up about response to the trending Netflix hit
Baby Reindeer's Richard Gadd has opened up about the "unbelievable response" to his hit Netflix series.
Created by and starring Gadd, Baby Reindeer is based on his own real-life experience of being stalked by an older woman, which in turn forces protagonist Donny to confront his buried trauma.
The seven-part limited series currently has a near-perfect 98% score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, and is still sitting in the number one spot of Netflix's Global Top 10 following its release on April 11.

Discussing this "unbelievable response" to the show during a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gadd shared: "I always believed in the show and I really loved it, and I thought it would maybe sit as maybe a little cult, artistic gem on the Netflix platform.
"But then overnight it was crazy. It felt like I woke up one day and everyone was watching it."
On why exactly he thinks Baby Reindeer has been such a hit, the comedian said: "The world is maybe in a bit more pain than I think we realise, perhaps."

He continued: "If you just look at the state of the world right now, everything just feels slightly wrong. I’m not sure there’s been a TV show like Baby Reindeer that’s kind of captured the dark difficulties and idiosyncrasies of life.
"Television, maybe, for the past few years has veered slightly towards keeping a broader eye on things, and that’s great, and I love so many of those shows that do that.
"But I think Baby Reindeer has stood out so much because it goes back to something about the human condition, which is dark and difficult and challenging, and every human being is a mixture of good and bad."
Gadd could potentially have another hit on his hands, as the BBC has commissioned a new six-part drama from him. Currently titled Lions, the show is set to follow the lives of two estranged brothers.
Baby Reindeer is available to stream on Netflix.
