John Cleese and The Walking Dead’s Most Random Celebrity Fans

Series 7 of The Walking Dead is almost upon us. It’s so near in fact, that I can almost taste the entrails now. Fans of the show have been waiting half the year to find out who is about to bite the bat, but for anyone who has not yet got on board the blood-and-brains train to post-apocalyptic heaven, a recap of series 1-6 has been released online this week.

Who would you get to voice such a recap if you had the choice? A celebrity with a well-known voice perhaps? Someone like say, oh I don’t know, John Cleese maybe? As ridiculous as that sounds, that is exactly what NOW TV have gone and done. Apparently the Monty Python and Fawlty Towers comedy legend is a big fan of the show and has recorded the amusing recap below:

In it he calls Negan ‘a nutter with a baseball bat’ (succinct, accurate), compares Rick to a more emotive Clint Eastwood and offers a series of lessons that all fans should remember. It’s a whistle stop tour through the six series so far that Cleese manages to rabbit through in four minutes.

Despite mercilessly mocking Andrew Lincoln’s accent (what’s his son’s name again?), Carol’s teaching technique (mmm knives!) and giving the characters names like Patchy Pete and Slicey Magee, the recap does a half decent job of getting people up to date. But I’d still recommend that if you haven’t started watching The Walking Dead yet, there is still time to catch up. Maybe not before series 7 starts, but at least before the show ends if it manages to get to the projected 12 series that they are aiming for.

The big question now is, can they get John Cleese to take his involvement up to the next level? A cameo as the silliest walker the show has ever seen perhaps? Cleese isn’t the only one with an interest in AMC’s zombie-packed drama so if he wants a cameo, he’ll have to fight off the likes of John Cusack, Ronda Rousey and Ben McKenzie though.

Cusack admitted to being a ‘secret zombie movie fan’, suggesting that he ‘could show up on Walking Dead and get killed real quick!’. Meanwhile, UFC hard nut Ronda Rousey said she’s want to get in on The Walking Dead action because, ‘I wanna shoot things all day, it’d be kinda fun’. Gotham star Ben McKenzie reckons his Southland co-star Michael Cudlitz who plays Abraham on TWD would quite like McKenzie to have a cameo just so he could decapitate him with a katana. Producers, I hope you’re listening.

Who would you like to see cameo in The Walking Dead? Could Bill Murray cameo as himself like in Zombieland or is that a really terrible idea?
