Mother killed in Fresno County crash has been identified. Big rig struck car, CHP says

A 51-year-old Kerman woman was identified as the victim of a fatal crash, the Fresno County Coroner said Wednesday.

Juliana Cuevas Cortes died in the crash about 5 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Manning Avenue and McMullin Grade, halfway between Raisin City and San Joaquin, the coroner confirmed.

Cortes was a passenger in a 2012 Dodge Avenger as it was driven by her 21-year-old son while they headed east on Manning. They failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of McMullin, CHP said.

A 42-year-old man from Coalinga in a commercial big rig, which had the right-of-way and no stop sign, on McMullin struck the Dodge within the intersection, CHP said.

Cortes died at the scene, CHP said. The son was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

The big rig driver did not report any injuries, according to CHP.
